WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

It is common in the demands and pressures of life to occasionally feel that we are not coping and to feel increasingly troubled.

It is not always possible or appropriate to find family or friends with whom to talk. To have a professionally trained counsellor working alongside us and listening attentively helps us to cope with our painful feelings, troubling thoughts and sometimes confusing behaviour. Anxiety, depression, anger and feelings of panic or hopelessness can begin to get on top of us. It is often a relief to talk with someone totally outside the situation about these feelings and to gain a new perspective on our difficulties, to learn to respond differently or discover inner resources not previously accessible.

Counselling can help us to regain the capacity to cope and to point us in a new direction leading to greater self-awareness and more harmonious relationships.

Counselling at OCIC is open to anyone over the age of 18, regardless of race, gender, disability, financial situation or sexual orientation.
