CONFERENCE UPDATE

"The Selfish Society"  Sue Gerhardt

Over 50 signed up for the stimulating conference led by Sue Gerhardt on 13 March. Sue’s talks and her new book “The Selfish Society” challenged us to reflect again on the importance of the early years in the formation of personality and the sense of self within the child. The crucial role of the primary caregiver was re-emphasised in helping the child to regulate its emotions and to be socially aware and proficient. It resulted in some lively debate as to its social, political and economic implications.

THANKSGIVING SERVICE

The OCIC Thanksgiving Service in June proved to be a very special afternoon with beautiful music, glimpses of the past from key people in our history, a very helpful theological reflection from the Right Revd David Atkinson and a delicious afternoon tea with a 25th Anniversary cake and a toast to the future.  We were also able to distribute John Hall’s History of OCIC – the First 25 years.  If you should want a copy of the history, please contact the office.
