Supervisors' Profiles

Lynne Cubbage

BACP Accredited Counsellor from December 1999

BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor from February 2006

UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor from December 1999.

Profile:

I have 20 years teaching experience in Primary and Secondary State Education and the private sector.  On gaining my counselling qualification I embarked upon a change of career.  I first worked in a private Christian Hospital as a counsellor.  Over the past fifteen years I have held several positions as a trainer in the counselling field, teacher training and personal development workshops including stress management.

I was Head of Training at the Counselling Centre Tunbridge Wells for three years, during that time I was responsible for developing the initial professional training and the continuing professional development courses.  I was also responsible for the successful application for BACP Accreditation for the Diploma Course and supported individual counsellors in their applications for accreditation.

My most recent work was as a case manager for an Employee Assistance Programme.  In this post I worked with affiliate counsellors on the telephone to support them in their work with clients and to ensure they were working to comply with the policies of the provider.

I have managed my own small private practice in counselling and supervision since qualifying.  Many of the clients within this setting were requiring support in managing stress due to various circumstances.

Following the completion of my M.Sc. in Supervision, I have undertaken a number of contracts working with professionals in different organisational settings.  This supervision is aimed at exploring how the individuals’ work impacts on them and how they might address this within the organisation.   It is also intended to facilitate the individual in finding ways to improve their relationship and communication either with their client group or their organisation.

Sheila Mackintosh Millard

Profile:

As my family grew up, after working part-time with deprived children and with Learning Disabled people, I trained and qualified as a Social Worker (CQSW). Following this I was a Psychiatric Social Worker in a London teaching hospital, clinically responsible in such areas as Marital and Family Therapy and Group Therapy. I also trained as a supervisor with Social Workers and Ordinands.

Having moved to Oxford I took a more senior post based in a psychiatric hospital with substantial work in out-patient psychodynamic psychotherapy. I then trained and qualified as a Group Analyst with the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) where I was elected a Training Group Analyst in 1993. Since leaving the hospital in 1987 I have been in independent practice and was external supervisor in the Department of Psychotherapy to junior psychiatrists and a range of other professionals.

Other supervisory experience on an individual or group basis includes: Balint Groups for GPs; Trainee and qualified Group Analysts; Staff Groups in a Christian Therapeutic Community, and in Palliative Care; CMHT, Street and Drug workers; Counsellors from a number of settings; Christian Ministers and Chaplains from various denominations.

I joined OCIC nearly two years ago in order both to make a contribution to the work and to integrate more fully my Christianity and my psycho-dynamic experience.
